Meet at NTU Main Gate
Founded in 1928, NTU is the country’s oldest higher-education institution. The university’s departments are a treasure trove of historical artefacts, specimens, and collections accumulated over the years for research and teaching purposes. Initially, these fine and comprehensive collections had been housed in different specimen/artefact museums. As their number continued to increase, the university in 2007 began the process of establishing the NTU Museums. To date, the number has grown to ten. In celebration of this year’s NTU Azalea Festival, the NTU Museums and the Visitor Center are again working together to invite the general public to appreciate the intellectual beauty of the collections and bear witness to a blossoming future of the museums.

150 years ago, the Canadian missionary Rev. George Leslie Mackay (Chinese name: 偕叡理 Jie Rui-Li) (1844-1901) landed at Tamsui on March 9th, 1872, with an aim to spread Christianity in Taiwan. He then started a family with a local, Zhang Tsung-Ming, as his wife. The Mackay family has continued to grow, among them Seth Mackay Ko (3rd Gen., 1900-1990) and Dr. William Leslie Ko (4th Gen., 1927-), who are alumni of National Taiwan University. This exhibition will not only focus on Mackay’s deeds in Taiwan but also introduce the literature, scientific, and artistic achievements of Seth and William, as well as allow guests to learn more about Mackay and his family through various perspectives.
