Japanese scholar Ino Kanori (1867-1925) was a pioneer anthropologist of Taiwan’s indigenous peoples and history. From 1895 to 1906¸ Ino conducted field survey several times. “Rediscovery of Ino Kanori and Cultures in Taiwan” presents photographic images, manuscripts, maps, and collections kept in the rare book section of NTU Library and NTU Museum of Anthropology. It also marks all locations where Ino conducted his fieldwork through DocuGIS. For comparison of the past with the present, the exhibition provides documentaries that revisit Ino Kanori’s fieldwork. We will see how Ino’s views of Taiwan’s indigenous peoples and history has been adopted and redeployed in contemporary ethnic and cultural movements. Let's return to the field and rediscover the cultures in Taiwan.
